5 ways to plan ahead for rain on your wedding day

If rain on your wedding day has been a continuing nightmare for you ever since you got engaged – you’re not alone! It’s one of the things that wedding couples fear the most (more than being jilted at the alter… crazy!).  ?

If you’re prepared, rain on your wedding day will not be a problem. Having a simple plan-B and other steps in place that you can easily implement on the day will ensure a stress-free wedding – no matter the weather!

Here are 5 ways to plan ahead for rain on your wedding day.

Tip #1: Have a venue Plan-B

Having a Plan-B at your venue could be as simple as moving inside or under a verandah if it looks like rain on your wedding day. Choose a venue with a wet weather option to ease the stress on you – there’s nothing worse than having to find a new venue a few days out from your wedding!

If your venue doesn’t have a wet weather option, there are other things you can do before finding a whole new venue, losing your deposit, and having to frantically contact all your guests and let them know of the new venue – not fun! Other options are sourcing a marquee or tent that will fit over your outdoor venue and guests, or buying some affordable wedding umbrellas to keep yourself and your guests dry – but we’ll discuss that in another tip!

Tip #2 – Remember the Positives

You’re marrying the love of your life – what’s not to smile about? Your wedding day is filled with positives and will be the happiest day of your life. The rain can’t ruin that feeling! Embrace the rain and celebrate with your partner, family and friends. You can even try dancing in the rain if your guests are brave enough!

Yes, rain on your wedding day is not ideal – but there are a whole lot of good things that come with the rain too. For one, it is seen as a sign of good luck, and we all need some of that on our wedding day. It also creates a romantic atmosphere, and you can’t get more romantic than kissing in the rain! Think of the amazing photos you can get with your loved ones in the rain, and the memories that will come from your rainy day.

Tip #3 – Invest in some Wedding Umbrellas

Umbrellas are not only a cost-effective way to keep everyone dry, they also look amazing in photos and create an elegant atmosphere. They also add to the styling of your wedding, whether that’s a sophisticated white theme or a bohemian, relaxed atmosphere – umbrellas are as gorgeous as they are functional.

Just remember to stock up on enough for your guests too – as we know unhappy guests are sure to put a dampening on your day (more than the rain ever could!)

Funnily enough, we know exactly where you can get some great ones 😉 Check out our range of wedding umbrellas here.

Tip #4 – Keep in constant communication with your vendors

Your vendors are professionals and have likely worked at many weddings before yours. Ask them for their advice and what it means for them if there is rain on your wedding day. Your musicians might not be able to work on a rainy day if they are not certain they will be covered up – so it is definitely something you should discuss with them and take the necessary precautions.

Tip #5 – Decide Ahead of Time

Don’t leave it until the last minute to put your Plan-B into motion. Check the weather forecast for your date as soon as it becomes available, and work to that. If the sun comes out on the day – perfect, but you shouldn’t rely on that. Don’t be afraid to make a judgement call that will save you stress in the long run, even if that’s only to grab a few wedding umbrellas just in case…
